Did You Know 2.0

This is quite a powerful video developed by Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod. It demonstrates an awareness of the development of the children in the United States compared to the children of other countries. It is quite eye opening and hopefully as citizens of the United States we will be more aware of where the world is headed along with the education and development of the future.
Cycling 2008

Now that cycling season is right around the corner, it’s always tempting to look for a new ride. Last year I bought a road bike which was a Cannondale Caad8. The bike itself is nice and light but the overall construction of the bike was frustrating. I had a lot of problems with gearing along with parts and pieces staying tight and snug. One time I was riding with Team CFC from Webster to Sodus Point (50 miles round trip) and back. During the way back my pedal crank came right off my bike but was still attached to my shoe. Thanks to Shannon he had a tool that enabled me to get back home. My Cannondale Caad8 is fine for road rides but last year Shannon and I participated in a few time trials, Shannon participated in a couple duathlons and this year we would both like to complete a triathlon. During these events the bike makes a huge difference in time along with the amount of effort exhibited during these events. The lighter the bike the easier and faster it goes, so we are both interested in getting a triathlon bike. So if I were to buy a triathlon bike I would choose one from below. All are comparative in price and performance, but I would definitely want to complete more research along with test riding each one.
Giant TRC Advanced SL Team

Road bike maker Giant has redesigned it’s TRC SL Team, which uses a carbon frame along with rectangular/squares tubes providing a much stiffer yet more controlling ride. I was never a big fan of Giant bikes but after riding a second summer with good friends of Shannon and Carrie who are both owners of Giants, I am more of a believer that they are a well made bike along with being a company who puts thought into their engineering and design. Last year I bought a Cannondale Caad8 and was the only bike throughout team CFC who had issues and hold-ups. I was quite disappointed. Shannon and Carrie kicked some butt on their Giants. Here’s a video from Bicycling Magazine discussing the TRC SL and its new features.

The Post Office Goes Through An Awkward Phase, or I Hope They Never Put Me on a Postage Stamp

I visited the Post Office a couple times this past week, and I think it may be the first time I’ve ever not wanted to buy stamps. Why, you ask? Well, the newest releases are stamps honoring people, and stamps honoring people are sadly uninspiring. Let’s take Charles W. Chesnutt as a for-example:

Even he looks bored, poor thing.
Then we have author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings:

It’s a little better. There’s more color, certainly, and Rawlings has a bit of a Mona Lisa going on, but, still, it doesn’t say, “Buy five sheets quick before they run out!”
At least they still have some of the Gerald Fords left:

Doesn’t he look like he’s experiencing stomach discomfort? Don’t you want to offer him some Tums?
I think it’s time for more children’s book characters.
