My Two Cents
MY TWO CENTS
Writing this article gives me the opportunity to give my opinions on just about everything. So since the subject hasn’t come up yet I figured that I would just come right out and tell you how I feel about different vehicles. Then, I assumed that you may want to give me some feedback on what you’re likes and dislikes are.
Let me start off by making it clear that the opinions expressed by your host, me, by no means reflect the opinions of the management of “Hometown Pulse”. Furthermore, be sure to direct all the hate mail and scolding to me personally.
I’m sure to generate some heat from this one, but my least favorite of all cars is the Saturn I don’t mean certain makes and models, I mean all of them. Why you ask? How could a car company that has completely set itself apart from the rest and created such a feel good way of doing business be at the bottom of the list? For that exact reason I don’t like them. Saturn is General Motors through and through. Call them anything you want, but Saturn is not a separate company by any means. It is what I call the Wolf in Sheep’s clothing. GM has proved that there was a need for this type of marketing. The “Saturn Family” was quite the innovation in car sales. It is a market that is here to stay. But the fact is, when you realize that you’re not invited to Thanksgiving Dinner at the dealership, you will be left with a mediocre car, one that is not engineered nearly as well as they claim, getting the same “hard sell” service that you can get anywhere. Come to find out you may have paid too much for it anyway, because although the price is not negotiable, don’t think for a minute that you received top dollar for that trade in.
Mechanically these vehicles are not holding up their end of the bargain. Engine problems, with timing chains going bad at very early stages in its life. Electrical problems, with check engine lights and computer problems. Excessive brake wear and pulsating from the start. Now in the manufacturers defense, these vehicles are not always maintained as they should or are directed in accordance with scheduled maintenance. Nonetheless, my favorite of all vehicles, Toyota, is definitely a more forgiving automobile.
Since it’s arrival in this country 30 years ago, Toyota has established itself as the premier vehicle manufacturer. Its’ engineering and designs have outdone most all others and have become the most sought after in the new and used markets. Camry, Toyota’s #1 seller, has been around since 1983 and its’ popularity has grown to tremendous proportions. I have customers that have traveled over 300,000 miles in their Camry’s. Toyota 4-Runner has the highest resale value of all sport utility vehicles. Because of their superior engineering and high residual values, you can get great deals on leasing. Although Toyota’s, across the board, are a little more expensive to purchase, the added expense is well worth the money when you consider the reliability and increased resale value.
Now don’t think that I am anti-American or something, I do like American cars and trucks. I feel that no one has ever made a better full size truck than GM or Ford. Cadillac and Lincoln have always made outstanding, top of the line luxury cars. If you are looking for a station wagon, I like Ford Escort; I think that it is an inexpensive, well-engineered product. Chrysler recently has been cranking out new designs and models that look and sell better than ever. But the Japanese and Germans are keeping the American manufacturers on their toes. Nissan is in financial trouble yet is still producing good vehicles. New comers like Daewoo and Hyundai are working hard to establish themselves. VW is making a splash with the new Bug. Really I like them all.
So tell me what you think. Give me your 2 cents and I’ll share it with my readers.
